Strataridakis - Winery
The Strataridakis Family Vineyards were acquired in 1955 by Aristides Strataridakis who immediately noticed the estate's significant geological and topographical features. It is mainly consisted of monastic estates of the Sinai Monastery of Agioi Apostoloi and is located on the foothill of the Asterousia Mountain in Heraklion Crete. It is considered as an important stop on the “wine road”. The Vineyards have an ideal location and with their slight south-east orientation exploiting the area's micro climate to the fullest. The vines are cultivated using the traditional Guyot system. The harvest is exclusively done by hand and once the grape bunches are selected, they are put into small baskets and immediately sent to the winery to begin the processing. The area's terrain is defined by the Asterousia's Mountain in the south-south-east, Kastelo Mountain in the east and the Anapodiaris stream at the northern side of the estate. The varieties being cultivated in the Strataridakis Estate are: Muscat, Vilana, Vidiano Spinas, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Kotsifali, Mandilari, Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot. Of late, Aristides Strataridakis passed the torch to his two sons Kostis and Manolis, both of whom are agronomists and carry on their father's work with passion and evolution.
