Kikones - Domaine
Melina Tassou, professional agriculturist and oenologist graduated by Bordeaux University, is the head of the first winery established in the Prefecture of Rodopi, which is named by the ancient Kikones, people inhabiting in the land of Thrace and making wine in ancient times, as also referred by Omiros. Melina Tassou applies on her private vineyard, the knowledge and experience she obtained on vine and wine making during her stay in Australia and France. Vassilis Tassou, professional agriculturist as well, is supervising the family private 100 acre vineyard which is located in Maroneia in the Prefecture of Rodopi and planted with Greek and international varieties. The wine making philosophy of the Estate is based on the technical knowledge of Bordeaux, the vinification procedure of Burgundy and the viticulture techniques of Australia. Grapes are being selected with care and picked by hand so that any other object is removed and during the vinification, the winemaker avoids any technological intervention.The Estate red wines age for 12 months in oak barrels and are bottled without filtration in order to maintain their characteristics.
