Syros in Whites
A new entry on the Greek wineries list is the Syros winery, its owner a young oenologist, Nikos Hatzakis who took on the task of bringing out the unknown wine heritage of the Cycladic Capital. With two white wines ideal for summer gatherings bet on the charms and peculiarities of the island's varieties such as Kountoura, Monemvasia and Assyrtiko.
The winery's establishment in 2011 was followed by the debut of the “Fabrica”, a Monemvasia and White Kountoura blend. Two years later, one more white dry wine was created with the name “San ta Maratha” by the famous Assyrtiko variety. The goal was to produce wines that are acclimated to their land and are well matched to their environment.
What could be better than two white wines by the sea that are enjoyed in a cool temperature. “Fabrica” is full of fruit and freshness and has an appeal towards appetizers, salads and fried fish but also enjoyable as an aperitif. As for the “San ta Maratha” a purebred food wine with nerve and sturdiness is brought out alongside fresh or grilled fish, seafood dishes and if you have a bottle of San Mihali, try them together.
