Metsovo Wines
The highest mountain vineyards of Greece are located in Metsovo, at an altitude of up to 950 to 1,000 meters. It is the place where the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon, which is encountered, nowadays, in almost every growing zone of the country, was tested for the first time on Greek soil. By its side, other cosmopolitan varieties were planted and cultivated such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay and Traminer as well as the local, red variety Vlachiko. The P.G.I. Metsovo wine is produced from the red varieties.
