Goumenissa wines
In the area of Goumenissa, at the spectacular vineyards which lie on the eastern slopes of Mount Paiko and at hills with gentle slopes to the south of the city, reigns Xinomavro, the most famous and fine red variety of northern Greece, along with Negkoska, a local red grape. The vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of 150-250 meters, sharing at their land these two varieties in approximately a 3:1 ratio, and the same happens in tanks, where the co-vinification and blending of the two red varieties gives the famous for their elegance wines labeled P.D.O. Goumenissa. The continental climate which is characterized by the cold winters and dry summers, and the strong winds that blow all year round in synergy with moisture from the neighboring valley of Axios, exempt vines from disease and promote their cultivation.
