Evia Wines
In beautiful Evia the major areas in the wine landscape are the plains of Lilantio and Karistos. In the fertile plain of Lilantio the vineyards unfold at an altitude of up to 350 meters. The climate here is very hot and dry, but the cool air from the gulf of Petalioi gives breaths of cool air to the vines during the summer. Traditionally a region devoted to white grapes, dominated by Savatiano which covers about 4/5 of the total area, other varieties including Roditi, Assyrtiko, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are cultivated along with some new notable attempts of cultivation of the red Syrah. On the other side of the island, at the south end in Karystos, Greek Aegean varieties are mainly planted, which are accustomed to the hot air and the generally dry climate. These are mainly the white Athiri from Rhodes, Assyrtiko and Aidani from Santorini and the red Cretan Liatiko. See also: Avantis Estate and Vriniotis Winery.
