Chania
While the entire county is traversed by the White Mountains, the rest of the area is relatively flat, with a climate more humid and cooler than that in the rest of the island. Here the predominant grape is Romeiko, from which the local wine Marouvas is derived. However, in recent years, anxious and hard working winemakers have dared planting international, elite varieties and are already presenting results of great interest. Such varieties are Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Roussanne, Grenache, Mourverdre, Syrah, Sauvignon, Cabernet and Merlot.
