Markogianni Winery Dalion 2021
Giannis and Antonia Christopoulou created the Markogianni estate as a tribute to their grandparents, who have been cultivating vines since 1982 in the area of Ancient Olympia. They have been producing quality wines and spirits, using rare indigenous varieties. After the beloved Diagon and the pioneer Orange, their new venture is Dalion, a dry Mavrodaphne from the Tsigello clone.
Deep, almost violet colour, with aromas of red fruit, berries and forest fruit on a background of sage and thyme, along with round, well-integrated tannins. The wine partly matures for a few months in used French oak with emphasis on the primary aromas, i.e. the floral and fruity character of the variety. The result justifies the Markogianni Winery and everyone that works on producing dry Mavrodaphne wines. The production is just 1600 bottles, it's a new expression of Mavrodaphne based also on terroir characteristics.
