Tetramythos Winery Phellόe Naturε 2020
Tetramythos winery dynamic entrance in the field of natural organic wines is quite impressive.
This is a wine from the eastern mountainous Aigialia in ancient Phellόe (today is called Seliana). During his Peloponnese tours, Pausanias characterized this area as more than proper for planting vines. This place is connected with Tetramythos winemaker Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos since he used to spend there his summer time. At the Metochi site of the holy 16th century Byzantine monastery, his family and other landowners cultivated the the monastery vineyards, giving, proportionally, some grapes to the monk. In 2004 Panagiotis re-planted the specific vineyard that is a field blend of Agiorgitiko, Black of Kalavryta and Mavrodaphne, with 30% of them being own rooted vines. The ground is mostly limestone with small clay gravel sections. There are very mild interventions in the vineyard (for example it has never been sprinkled). Τhe interventions in the winery are also very mild with open-air fermentation, hand dipping, two-week skin contact and malo-lactic fermentation in eight years old barrels. Manual bottling follows after two years. Two to three barrels are produced every year from 3 acres. We do not think that the wine requires a description.
